Windows Management User Group

18:30 – 19:30 Title: BIOS,UEFI, Configuration Manager and Windows 10

Abstract:

BIOS and UEFI settings play an important role in today’s systems management. Often times, new systems are built and go out the door without any changes or modifications to the default settings. In fact, if a model is deployed over a period of time then chances are there will be several different BIOS/UEFI versions floating around in the environment for the same model. Rarely do system administrators update the BIOS/UEFI after a system has been deployed.

Today, it is not only important to create a BIOS/UEFI standard for each supported hardware model but it is something that should be mandatory. Otherwise, new security features in Window 10 may not be possible without doing an expensive full wipe and load of the operating system.

In the first part of this meeting, you will learn where to begin in your Windows 10 journey by considering the various upgrade paths that our available and how that fits into your environment and business needs. Mike will highlight hardware inventory settings that should be enabled that will assist with the assessment, as well as how to extend the hardware inventory for the three major PC vendors, as well as how to get other useful non-vendor specific information. With this data at our finger tips, we can start to see what needs to be done in order to get to Windows 10.

In the second part of this meeting, you will learn how to update the BIOS versions of the machines in your environment. This is a critical piece for not only Windows 10 supportability, but also for UEFI and firmware related security fixes. We will then look at the differences in booting in Legacy mode vs. UEFI mode and how that impacts things like disk partitioning.

At the end of this session, you will be on your way to starting a successful Windows 10 deployment.

WMUG NL Webinar #3 2016 on May 18th is CANCELLED

*** Nederlandse vertaling hieronder ***

This evening our 3rd webinar of 2016 was planned, unfortunately we have to cancel the webinar mainly due to the bad internet connection Peter and Bob experience at the Midwest Management Summit in Minnesota.

We will not entirely skip this webinar though, but record the session Bob was going to give and make it available to you for viewing later.

Our deepest appologies, but don’t worry we plan to host much more webinars later this year.
